A dog wandering on the road

A loose dog on a road is a danger to itself and to drivers. How to act without causing an accident.

What to do, step by step

1. 1Do not brake hard or swerve: signal, slow down and stop in a safe place with the hazard lights on.
2. 2On a motorway or expressway stay in the car: call the operator or the GNR (or 112 if there is immediate danger) and give the kilometre and direction.
3. 3On other roads, if it is safe: crouch, do not chase, call with a calm voice and offer something (food, an open car door). If it runs, do not insist: it may run into traffic.
4. 4If you catch it, put on a leash or improvise one with a belt; take it to a vet or the shelter for a microchip scan.
5. 5Post the animal in the Lost and found section of patuco with a photo and the place: the owner may be searching.
